refrigerator shall be individually sprayed for 30 minutes with the
spray applied perpendicular to the surfaces. Upon completion, a
visual verification shall be done to ensure that no water
intrusion occurred into the refrigerator or electrical components.
The refrigerator shall be subjected to
4.3.4.3 Storage test.
a minimum temperature of 155oF for 4 hours, then the room
temperature shall be brought to 70oF + 5oF. After 1 hour, the
refrigerator shall then be subjected to a maximum temperature of
minus 65oF for 4 hours, then the room temperature increased to 70oF
+ 5oF. After 1 hour, inspect the refrigerator and verify that
there has been no permanent set or loss of resiliency of packing
or gaskets, congealing of lubricants, discoloration, cracking,
bulging, checking or crazing.
4.3.4.4 Corrosion resistance test. The refrigerator shall be
tested for resistance to the effects of a salt fog atmosphere
having a salt concentration of 5 percent + 1 percent. The
refrigerator shall be tested in accordance with MIL-STD-810,
Method 509.3, with the refrigerator subjected to 24 hours of salt
fog exposure followed by 24 hours of drying time in an ambient
temperature of 70oF + 5oF, followed by 3 more cycles of 24-hour
exposure and 24-hour drying time. The refrigerator shall be
tested with the door in the open position. Upon completion of
testing, visually inspect to verify that there are no signs of
corrosion.
4.3.4.5 Grounding for Navy inspection. Visually verify that
provisions have been made to permanently ground and bond all
exposed external and internal metal surfaces of the refrigerator's
floor, ceiling, walls and door to a grounding rod.
4.3.5 Interface and interoperability requirements verification.
All interface and interoperability requirements shall be verified
as follows.
4.3.5.1 Refrigerator interface measurement. Measure the
opening in the rear endwall to verify that it is 28-7/8 inches
square, centered along the width of the panel and that the bottom
of the opening is not less than 14 inches nor more than 15 inches
above the bottom edge of the panel. Verify that the refrigerator
has provisions to fasten the refrigeration unit to it.
