COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

ICE CREAM CABINETS, MECHANICALLY REFRIGERATED

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial item Description in preference to Military Specification MIL-I-20565 for specific sizes of listed in this document.

Intended use. The ice cream cabinets are for stocking bulk or packaged ice cream in food dispensing facilities.

Salient characteristics.

Cabinets.

An ice cream cabinet shall consist of mechanically refrigerated, insulated compartment capable of holding ice cream in standard 2-1/2, 3, and 5 gallon bulk containers of 9-7/8 inch maximum diameters. The outer shell of the cabinet shall be of stainless steel or baked enamel coated sheet steel. The interior surfaces shall be stainless steel, baked enamel or galvanized steel sheet. The top shall be one piece construction of stainless steel sheet and shall extend over the cabinet sides. Top access lids shall be provided. The lids shall be of the flip-flap design (totally removable lid, hinged in the center to permit opening either half). Lifting handles shall be installed on the lids, and bumpers shall be provided to prevent marring to the top surface when the lids are open. Lids opening shall be of sufficient size and number to permit insertion of the total capacity of 2-1/2, 3, or 5 gallon standard ice cream containers. The lids and the spaces between the inner liner and outer shell shall be completely filled with insulation. The insulation shall be industrial-type fiberglass insulation board, expanded polystyrene, or fluorocarbon expanded polyurethane preformed to shape or foamed-in-place.

Sizes. The ice cream cabinets shall be in the following sizes:

15 gallons capacity; 120 volts, 60 hertz, single phase

25 gallons capacity; 120 volts, 60 hertz, single phase

35 gallons capacity; 120 volts, 60 hertz, single phase

45 gallons capacity; 120 volts, 60 hertz, single phase
