REFRIGERATOR, MECHANICAL, BIOLOGICAL, LOW-TEMPERATURE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to MIL-R-3860.
1. ABSTRACT
1.1 Abstract. This commercial item description covers low-temperature, biological, mechanical refrigerators.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The biological refrigerator shall be a completely self-contained chest type, air cooled refrigerated unit with single top lid, capable of maintaining any selected storage compartment temperature between -5°F and +5°F, in an ambient of 90°F, ± 2°F. The refrigerated storage area shall be 12 cubic feet ± 1 cubic foot. Overall dimensions shall be 60-1/2 inches to 67 inches long, 28-1/2 inches to 32 inches wide, and 93 inches to 42 inches high. The exterior, interior, and lid of the cabinet shall be fabricated of 300 series stainless steel. The exterior of the cabinet including the lid shall have a minimum thickness of 18 (0.0480) gauge. The interior of the cabinet shall have a minimum thickness of 20 (0.0355) gauge. The interior of the lid shall have a minimum thickness of 16 (0.0595) gauge.
