DISPENSER, DRINKING WATER,
MECHANICALLY COOLED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Interim Federal Specification
OO-D-00566
This commercial item description covers the requirements for cafeteria style water cookers which utilize faucets or other suitable means for filling glasses or cups or other containers.
Salient characteristics:
The cafeteria style drinking water dispenser shall be freestanding, supported on corrosion resistant adjustable legs for leveling clearance from the floor shall be not less than 6 inches, equipped with two glass fillers and one outlet for remote use, be water cooled, motor-compressor assembly hermetically sealed, operated on 115 volts, 60 Hz and have the following minimum draw-off capacities:
a) 19.0 gallons per hour
b) 28.5 gallons per hour
Evidence that the criteria style drinking water dispensers comply with the method of testing for rating, performance requirements and safety requirements of ARI Standard 1010-78 (Standard for Drinking Fountains and Self-Contained Mechanically- Refrigerated Drinking Water Coolers) shall be a listing in the Directory of Certified Drinking Water Coolers dated December 1, 1979- May 31, 1980, sponsored and administered by Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI). In lieu of the ARI listing a satisfactory test report of compliance to ARI 1010-78 from an independent laboratory would be acceptable.
Workmanship. The finished water cooler shall be clean
and shall not contain any burrs, slivers, sharp edges or rough die, tool, gouge
or grind marks. Holes for bolts, screws rivets, or threaded fasteners shall be
accurately punched or drilled, and any obstruction that prevents proper seating
of rivets shall be removed. The driven rivets shall be fully peened with the
heads in full contact with riveted members. Components shall not be fractured,
buckled, kinked, bent, dented, punctured, or malformed. There shall be no
evidence of pits or stains, blistering, or flaking, peeling, or large
discoloration (exposed surfaces). Components shall be free of areas of film or
of rust, foreign matter imbedded in finish wet or tacky (painted surfaces),
sags or runs.
The water cooler shall be designed so that parts mate properly without excessively play.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
